Quarantine life with kids at home 24×7 gave another kinds of beautiful experience. We all had maximum time to spend with each other, unlike earlier where we all were in hush-rush. We learnt things together, cooked and baked a lot. My kids often look out for weekends, because they get treated with donuts in weekends. This was the one thing which kids missed terribly in quarantine days.
Though my kids are never hell bent to get their demands fulfilled nor do they throw tantrums. However, like how we all mommies are, once our munchkins demands, things get stuck in our heart. The kids’ sweet cravings for donuts and the major missing of their life, made the mommy in me to come up with this interesting baked donuts recipe with available limited resources. Though, the outcome was not as perfect at the store bought ones but still it fulfilled the donut cravings of my little ones. Also, we were able to skip additional calories by baking instead of frying.
Without further ado, I will dive into the recipe!
Prepare Donut Baking Pan
I do not have donut baking pan, so, I use my muffin baking pan and some aluminium foils to make donut pan. See below ?how?
- Cut 4×4 inch aluminium foils.
- Roll each aluminium foils around your index finger to make it a mini cylinders.
- Similarily, make the aluminium foil cylinders equal to the number of muffin moulds.

- Now, grease your muffin pan and aluminium cylinders with oil.
- Then, place each aluminum foil in the center of muffin cups/moulds. Your donut pan is now ready. Keep it aside.
Bake Your Donuts
Ingredients:
- Whole Wheat flour – 2 cups
- Milk – 1.5 cup milk
- Sugar – 1/2 cup
- Unsalted butter (melted & at room temperature) – 8 tbsp
- Baking Soda – 1/2 tsp
- Vanilla essence – 2 tsp
- White Vinegar – 2 tsp
- Salt – a pinch
- Baking powder – 1.5 tsp
Method:
- Pre-heat the oven at 175 °C .
- Mix all the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt) and sieve the mixture twice.

3. In a separate bowl, mix milk and vinegar and whisk it for a while. Let milk vinegar mix rest for 5 mins, to thicken.

4. Next, add melted butter and vanilla essence to the wet mixture and whisk for another 2 mins.

5. Now, add the dry ingredients in batches and mix evenly to avoid any lumps.

6. Then, fill this batter in a piping bag and pipe the batter carefully into your prepared donut pans. Fill each mould only upto 3/4th. This allows to have space for donuts to rise while baking.

7. Place your donut pan into the oven and bake for 15 mins. (Time may varry with different types of oven. Check with toothpick; if donuts are done, toothpick will come out clean).
8. Let your donuts cool down completely, before glazing.
You can glaze your donuts with glaze of your choice or can eat as it is with sprinkling some powdered sugar over it.
I, however glazed my donuts with chocolate. Below ? is the chocolate glazing method.
Chocolate Glaze Your Donuts

Relish the most awaited donuts with your sweet little munchkins!!
To be noted:
- All ingredients should be at room temperature. This allows better mixing of ingredients.
- Do not forget to grease aluminum foils and pan beforehand.
- You can use ziplocks incase you do not have piping bags.
- If you do not have ziplocks, you can also use small spoon to fill your donut pan carefully.
- Donuts should be cooled completely before glazing. Warm donuts will break while glazing.
- Baked donuts can be stored in air-tight container upto 3-4 days.
Happy Baking!
